Week 9 episode of Project Runway: All Stars took on athleisure which proved to be harder than expected.
A Touch of Style, the title of the episode was all about athletic inspired gear as designers had to create garments for judge and host Alyssa Milano. The show, now in its fifth season, had 7 designers left as the competition reaches week 9. The task for the episode was high end athleisure inspired by Milano's own clothing line, Touch sold online and in various stadium shops. Milano's line is aimed towards female sports fans who want to root for their teams while dressed comfortably.
The final looks were composed of a lot of mesh and neoprene though, Sam Donovan decided to throw in a good amount of lace into his garment. The runway was all about showing things that could be worn to any type of game and many of the looks hit it out of the park.

However, with the competition getting tighter, not everybody could handle the pressure. At one point the challenge proved to be too much for Ken Laurence, season 12 competitor who ended up walking out and contemplated leaving the season. He managed to return and finish his garment in time for the runway but it still landed him on the bottom. The elimination of season 11 designer, Layana Aguilar was unexpected because her own work is very sporty but her look was deemed "not gamewear". Aguilar, known for her own relaxed items, put the most wok into her pants sowing multiple panels which wasn't enough to save her.
The winner was the sewing whiz, Kini Zamora who managed to construct three pieces: jeans, a top and a coat. He will get to work with Milano on a future venture with her company, Touch.
It seems that athleisure has moved to the point of Project Runway challenges proving it's design versatility and staying power.
